
Kolkata, 13 August (H.S.): A 19-year-old student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur died after falling from a building on the institute campus on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased student has been identified as Ankit Sharma, a native of Rajasthan. He was a second-year student of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and was residing at the Nalanda Complex on the IIT Kharagpur campus.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred at around 4 p.m., when Ankit reportedly fell from the three-storey Nalanda Complex building. Following the incident, he was immediately rushed to a hospital, where doctors examined him and declared him dead.
Officials of the institute reached the spot after being informed about the incident. The circumstances that led to the student's fall and the exact cause of his death have not yet been established. An investigation is currently underway.
The institute authorities have informed Ankit's family about the incident. Police and the institute administration are carrying out the necessary procedures.
The incident has left the IIT Kharagpur campus in shock and mourning, with students and faculty expressing grief over the death of the young student.
