Kolkata, 28 July (H.S.): West Bengal Labour Minister Arjun Singh on Tuesday held a meeting with representatives of Central Trade Unions associated with the jute industry at the Labour Department in Nabanna. The meeting focused on the current state of the jute sector, reopening of closed jute mills, and issues affecting workers.

Labour Secretary Rachna Bhagat, Special Labour Commissioner Ashish Sarkar, and other senior officials of the department were also present at the meeting.

Representatives of the trade unions appreciated the Labour Minister's efforts in facilitating the phased reopening of closed jute mills and resumption of operations. They also highlighted the challenges confronting the jute industry and raised various issues related to the welfare of workers.

Listening to the representatives' concerns, Minister Arjun Singh assured them that their suggestions would be given due consideration. He urged all stakeholders to work together to strengthen the state's jute industry and ensure its sustainable growth in the coming years.

The meeting also emphasized closer coordination between the government, the administration, and trade unions to protect workers' interests and promote the long-term development of West Bengal's jute industry.
