
Guwahati, 26 July (HS): The Assam government has announced that it will offer the post of Sub-Inspector in Assam Police to Rupamoni Garh, the first woman from Assam to successfully scale Mount Everest.
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said the appointment will be made subject to the approval of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), where Rupamoni is currently associated.
The Chief Minister also announced that the road connecting Rupamoni Garh's residence in Lakhimpur to Lilabari Airport will be upgraded to a permanent road and named in her honour.
Describing her achievement as a historic milestone, Dr. Sarma said no woman from Assam had previously conquered the world's highest peak, adding that Rupamoni Garh's feat would be remembered in history in golden letters and would continue to inspire future generations.----------
