Guwahati, 26 July (HS): Volunteers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Seva Bharati have intensified rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected districts of Upper Assam, extending assistance to thousands of families affected by the devastating floods in Sivasagar and Jorhat.

According to a statement, more than 200 people were rescued from severely inundated villages, including Kakati Gaon, D-Gaon, No. 2 Konwar Gaon and Chetia Kaibarta Gaon in Betbari under Sivasagar district. The rescued residents were shifted to safer locations and relief camps.

Relief teams have also reached submerged areas such as Sundar Pukhuri, Bamun Pukhuri, Geleki and Rajabari using small boats to distribute cooked food, drinking water, medicines, clothing and other essential supplies. Similar relief operations are underway in Alengmora, Katiram Chuk, Kulai Chuk, Naliya Chuk, Shensowa Chuk and Charigharia Chuk in Jorhat district.

The volunteers have distributed tarpaulins, candles, mosquito coils, dry food, biscuits, potable water, soap, alum and essential medicines among the affected families. Special attention has been given to evacuating elderly people, women, children and the sick to safer places while facilitating emergency medical assistance.

The organisations said the ongoing humanitarian mission reflects their commitment to selfless service, with volunteers continuing to stand by flood-affected communities by providing relief, rescue and support during the ongoing crisis.
