Prayagraj, 26 July (HS): On the occasion of the 27th

Vijay Diwas of the Kargil War, City Congress Committee members paid homage to

the valour, courage and supreme sacrifice of the Indian Army and its martyrs. A

meeting under the presidentship of City President Fuzail Hashmi, a programme

was held at the party office in Chowk, where the extraordinary courage,

sacrifice and unwavering determination of all 527 soldiers who were martyred

during Operation Vijay were remembered.

Congress leaders said that after the official information

about the infiltration of the Pakistani Army was received on May 3, 1999, the

war began and ended on July 26, 1999, with a decisive victory for the Indian

Army. The 84-day-long war enhanced India’s prestige across the world. Praising

the Indian Army, the speakers said that the spirit of laying down their lives

for the motherland will continue to inspire generations to come.
