
Guwahati, 02 July (HS): Counterfeit currency circulation continues to pose a challenge in Guwahati, with police recovering fake Indian currency worth around ₹10 lakh in separate operations across the city and arresting four alleged traffickers, officials informed on Thursday.
In one operation at Kamakhya Railway Junction, police arrested two men from Jharkhand — Dayal Das and Golab Sheikh, both residents of Pakur district — after recovering counterfeit notes from their possession.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly collected the fake currency from an unidentified person in Rajgarh area of Guwahati and were planning to transport it to Jharkhand. Police have launched an investigation to identify the source of the counterfeit notes and trace other members of the network.
In separate operations conducted at different locations across the city, police also seized counterfeit currency worth nearly ₹10 lakh and arrested two more alleged smugglers, taking the total number of arrests in the fake currency cases to four. Further investigation is underway. It may be mentioned that yesterday also three persons had arrested with fake Indian currency in Guwahati.------------
