
Durgapur, 02 July (H.S.): Panic spread in the Bansol area of Faridpur Block in Durgapur, West Burdwan district, on Thursday morning after the body of an unidentified man was recovered from a well. The circumstances leading to the man's death remain unclear, and police are investigating all possible angles, including the possibility of murder.
According to the police and local sources, residents spotted a body floating in the well early on Thursday morning and immediately informed the police. The discovery drew a large crowd to the spot.
A team from Durgapur Faridpur Police Station reached the scene and, with the help of local residents, recovered the body from the well. The identity of the deceased has not yet been established.
Local residents claimed that the man was not from the area, raising further questions about how he reached the location and how he died. Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the victim may have been murdered and his body dumped into the well.
The body has been sent to Durgapur Sub-Divisional Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police officials said the exact cause of death would be determined after the autopsy report is received. Efforts are also underway to identify the deceased.
A local resident, Kalicharan Maji, said, We were shocked to find a body floating in the well this morning. The man is not known to anyone in our locality. We have no idea where he came from or how he died. The police are investigating the matter.
The police said the investigation is in its preliminary stages and all possible angles are being examined.
