Guwahati, 12 July (HS): The Congress on Sunday demanded an independent inquiry under the supervision of a Supreme Court judge into the alleged irregularities in donations made to the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, while launching a sharp attack on the Central Government.

Addressing a press conference at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati, Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Akhilesh Prasad Singh said accountability must be fixed in the matter, as the trust overseeing the temple was constituted under the Prime Minister's leadership.

He said the Congress would launch a nationwide public awareness campaign on the issue and raise it during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament. The party also demanded the dissolution of the trust, a forensic audit of its accounts, and action against those found responsible if any irregularities are established.----------
