Kolkata, 01 July (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday announced that the Bharat Sevashram Sangha Hospital at Diamond Harbour will be empanelled under the Central government's flagship Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme. He also assured that the state government would extend all possible support for the hospital's further development.
The Chief Minister made the announcement while inaugurating the hospital's newly established state-of-the-art Neuro Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU). Addressing the gathering, Adhikari praised Bharat Sevashram Sangha for its longstanding contribution to social service and public welfare, saying the government remains committed to strengthening institutions engaged in humanitarian work.
Recalling the devastating floods in Paschim Medinipur during his tenure as the Leader of the Opposition, Adhikari said relief operations had become extremely challenging due to the situation on the ground. He noted that Bharat Sevashram Sangha had come forward to support the administration by ensuring the availability of essential resources. With the organisation's assistance, around 23,000 people were provided meals every day for 15 consecutive days, he said.
The Chief Minister urged the hospital authorities and the monks of Bharat Sevashram Sangha not merely to request assistance from the state government but to send directives whenever support was required, assuring them that the government would respond on priority.
Highlighting the legacy of the organisation, Adhikari said Bharat Sevashram Sangha founder Swami Pranavananda Maharaj made an enduring contribution to West Bengal and society. He added that Swami Pranavananda, alongside Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, played a significant role in safeguarding the interests of Bengali Hindus, and that his contribution could never be forgotten.
Adhikari further said Bharat Sevashram Sangha has earned immense respect for its selfless service to society. While the organisation had faced several difficulties under previous governments, he asserted that the present state government would fully support its initiatives and help expand its service activities.
