
Barpeta (Assam), 27 June (HS): Police in Assam's Barpeta district seized 32 cartons of illegally smuggled Bhutanese liquor and arrested two persons during coordinated raids at Khairabari and Moirajhar, highlighting concerns over cross-border smuggling networks operating along the Indo-Bhutan border.
The arrested accused have been identified as Monti Saha and Sanjay Das. Police also seized two e-rickshaws allegedly used to transport the contraband.
According to police, the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence under the leadership of Barpeta Road Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shyamal Jyoti Saikia. The raids were conducted at Khairabari and Moirajhar, where the liquor was intercepted while being transported in two e-rickshaws.
Police said the seized consignment comprised 32 cartons of liquor allegedly smuggled illegally from Bhutan into India. Investigators are probing the possible involvement of a wider cross-border smuggling network and further investigation is underway.----------
