Kaziranga (Assam), 27 June (HS): The first wave of this year's flood season has begun impacting Kaziranga National Park as rising waters of the Brahmaputra River have entered the world-renowned wildlife reserve, raising concerns over the safety of its rich biodiversity and the possible displacement of wild animals.

Floodwaters flowing through channels connected to the Brahmaputra have inundated several wetlands and water bodies inside the park, signalling the onset of the annual monsoon flooding. The situation has heightened concern as water levels continue to rise, with authorities closely monitoring developments.

Anticipating a potential worsening of the flood situation, the park administration has stepped up preparedness measures. According to Divisional Forest Officer Arun Vignesh, forest camps, elephant boats, sanitisation measures and health camps have already been put in place to ensure an effective emergency response.

The authorities have also kept barricades ready and activated sensor cameras at six strategic locations to monitor wildlife movement and facilitate timely rescue and protection efforts if animals begin moving towards safer highlands. Officials said all necessary arrangements have been made to minimise risks to wildlife and ensure a coordinated response during the flood season.------------
