Lucknow, 25 June (HS): Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister
Keshav Prasad Maurya said the Emergency was a result of the dictatorial mindset
of the Congress. Keshav Prasad Maurya wrote in his social media post on
Thursday that June 25, 1975 is the black day in the history of Indian democracy
when the Congress, especially the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, broke into
arrogance of power and imposed Emergency on the country. Through
this, she tightened the grip of the constitution on the fundamental rights of
the people and the independence of democratic institutions.
The Deputy Chief Minister wrote that #SamvidhanHatyaDiwas reminds
us of the dark times when voices of dissent were crushed, press freedom was put
on guard and democracy fighters were brutally put behind bars. The Emergency
was a result of the dictatorial mindset of the Congress.
Keshav Prasad Maurya wrote, The courage, sacrifice and
dedication to the national interest of the democracy fighters who fought steadfastly
even in the adverse circumstances of the time to protect democracy will always
be remembered. Salute again and again to all those democracy fighters who
fought this dark period resolutely!”
