Mumbai, 25 June (HS): After Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut accused
MP Sanjay Dina Patil of threatening demonstrators, Maharashtra Chief Minister
Devendra Fadnavis promised to safeguard residents. Raut accused Patil of
threateningly confessing to murder. Fadnavis pledged to take measures against
any threats, emphasizing public safety and law enforcement's responsibility in
keeping order. Fadnavis has pledged serious action in response to claims
against Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Dina Patil, who is accused of threatening
demonstrators with death. A dispute emerged after MP Sanjay Raut alleged Patil
had made violent threats in reaction to rallies over his political defection.
Addressing journalists in Nagpur, Chief Minister Fadnavis
declared firmly that any threats to public safety would not be accepted, and
police action would be taken if Patil was proven guilty of uttering such
threats.
Fadnavis reassured the public, stating that any intimidation
of residents will be dealt with immediately and firmly. According to Raut's
letter to the Mumbai Police Commissioner, Patil threatened demonstrators in
North-East Mumbai with death, including gloating about previous crimes. The
claims have heightened tensions, coinciding with the departure of six Shiv Sena
MPs, including Patil, to the side led by Eknath Shinde, resulting in massive
public indignation.
Raut has urged authorities to take swift action, claiming that if
investigations unearth Patil's bomb-making ability or connections to terrorist
groups, they may show linkages to larger terrorist actions. As the dispute
grows, the political scene remains tense, causing other UBT Sena officials to
ask for constitutional safeguards in the face of continuous defections.
