Heavy rains since early Wednesday

morning in several cities across Maharashtra, including Mumbai, have caused

waterlogging in many areas. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a

red alert for the Mumbai and Palghar districts, warning of the possibility of

heavy rain and strong winds in these districts. Working people are facing significant

problems due to waterlogging on roads caused by the heavy rains.

Mumbai city Mayor Ritu Tawde said

today that a total of 208 mm of rain has been recorded in Mumbai. Of these, 195

mm rain has been recorded in Mumbai's western suburbs and 167 mm in Mumbai's

eastern suburbs. Due to this, many areas of Mumbai are waterlogged, and water

drainage work is underway with the help of pumping everywhere. The Mayor said

that many areas including Sion, King's Circle, Dadar, Lalbaug, Andheri Subway,

Santacruz Subway are still waterlogged, while water has been drained in Gandhi

Nagar of Sion. The Mayor also said that the problem of waterlogging has arisen

due to heavy rain in a short period of time, and efforts will be made to deal

with it in the near future.

The heavy rains have disrupted

Mumbai's lifelines, including local train services, the Vashi Trans-Harbour

service, the Metro service, bus services, and road traffic. However, these

services have resumed after considerable effort.

The Indian Meteorological

Department has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Ratnagiri, and Palghar districts

today, and an orange alert for Thane, Raigad, and Sindhudurg districts. The

weather department has also warned of a high sea level of 3.41 meters, heavy

rain, and winds of more than 80 kilometers per hour. Following this warning,

the district magistrates of these districts have been instructed to remain

vigilant.

The Meteorological Department said

that in the last 24 hours, 224 mm of rain was recorded in Ram Mandir, 218.5 mm

in Colaba, 210.6 mm in Santacruz, 182.5 mm in Sion, 181.7 mm in Vikhroli, 180.7

mm in Vidyavihar and 180.7 mm in Chembur.

Local sources said that due to

heavy rains in Mumbai and the western suburbs since midnight, a tree fell on a

parked car in the Dadar and King Circle areas, damaging it. A Mumbai Municipal

Corporation team has removed the tree. Similarly, in the Vikhroli area, the

wall of a house collapsed due to heavy rain, but there were no casualties.

Vasai Virar has been experiencing

heavy rain since last night. This has led to waterlogging in many low-lying

areas. Water has accumulated in Central Park, Tulinj, Station area, Gala Nagar,

Achole Road in Nalasopara, as well as in many low-lying areas of Virar and

Vasai. The rain is still continuing. If the rain continues to intensify, water

may enter the homes of people living in low-lying areas.
