New Delhi, 22 June (H.S.):
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED)'s auction portal, NAFED.in, at the Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan here on Tuesday. Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, NAFED Chairman Jethabhai Ahir, Managing Director Deepak Agarwal, and senior officials will also be present on the occasion.
According to the Ministry of Cooperation, Shah will also launch several digital and welfare initiatives aimed at empowering farmers and strengthening the cooperative sector. These include the NAFED-Kalyan Scholarship for the children of farmers, the Drishti Portal for the management of pulse and oilseed stocks, the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Portal to strengthen resource management, and the NAFED.in auction portal.
The programme will feature a live demonstration of the registration process on the NAFED.in portal, followed by the commencement of the auction process. According to NAFED, the portal will play a significant role in enhancing transparency, efficiency, and operational ease in the auction of agricultural produce. It will digitise auction-related activities and provide an integrated platform for farmers, member institutions, and other stakeholders.
On the occasion, Shah will also distribute NAFED-Kalyan Scholarship cheques to the children of farmers. NAFED said the initiative reflects its commitment to promoting farmer welfare and education.
Following the programme, the Union Home and Cooperation Minister will hold a meeting with members of NAFED's Board of Directors. The meeting will review the organisation's activities, progress, action taken on previous directives, and its future roadmap.
Notably, NAFED plays a crucial role in agricultural marketing, procurement, and cooperative-based agricultural trade in the country. The organisation said these new digital and welfare initiatives are significant steps towards advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Prosperity through Cooperation and strengthening cooperative institutions through technology and transparency.
