The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday arrested two absconding accused in connection with a bank fraud case involving Rs 1.25 crore. The arrested individuals, Brij Bhushan Prasad and Kartar Singh, are accused of defrauding the main branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, of Rs 1,25,47,950 between November 2002 and June 2005.
The CBI said both accused had fled to Nepal during the course of the investigation. Subsequently, they were declared proclaimed offenders by the court, and Red Corner Notices were also issued against them.
The agency said the two accused were arrested in separate operations conducted on Sunday. Brij Bhushan Prasad was apprehended from Kopargaon in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district, while Kartar Singh was arrested from Raipur in Chhattisgarh.
According to the CBI, the case relating to the Rs 1,25,47,950 fraud committed between November 2002 and June 2005 was registered in August 2005. During the investigation, both accused managed to flee the country and take refuge in Nepal. The agency continued its investigation and announced a reward of Rs 25,000 each for information leading to their arrest. Following sustained efforts, technical inputs, meticulous investigation, and coordinated action by the agency, both accused were finally apprehended.
The CBI said the investigation is continuing. Both accused will be produced before the competent court.
