The Union Cabinet has approved two major infrastructure projects in Amaravati, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh. The projects include Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation (CGGPOA) for central government offices and General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) for government employees.
Briefing the media on the Cabinet decisions at the National Media Centre, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that both projects aim to develop modern, sustainable, and environmentally friendly infrastructure. He stated that the Cabinet has approved the Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation project in Amaravati at a cost of ₹1,299.08 crore. The project will comprise a built-up area of 2.325 million square feet.
He further informed that the General Pool Residential Accommodation project has also been approved with an estimated cost of ₹1,234.91 crore. The residential project will have a built-up area of 3.130 million square feet.
Vaishnaw said that both projects will be developed in accordance with sustainable and green infrastructure standards. A minimum 4-star rating under the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) framework will be ensured, and the buildings will be designed in compliance with the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) 2024. Special emphasis will be placed on energy efficiency and environmentally sustainable construction.
He added that inclusive development has also been prioritized in these projects. The complexes will be designed to be barrier-free and accessible for persons with disabilities, while modern civic and community facilities will also be provided.
