New Delhi, May 26 (H.S.): Just a day after the increase in petrol and diesel prices, the price of CNG has also been raised today. Effective from today, the rate of CNG has been increased by Rs 2 per kilogram. This marks the fourth hike since May 15. Following the latest revision, the price of CNG in the national capital, Delhi, has risen to Rs 83.09 per kilogram.
Earlier, the price of CNG was increased by Rs 2 on May 15, by Rs 1 on May 18, and again by Rs 1 on May 23. The impact of these successive hikes is likely to be felt most strongly across the Delhi-NCR region, where CNG is extensively used in auto-rickshaws, taxis, school vans, and private vehicles. The continuous rise in fuel prices is expected to increase pressure on transportation costs as well as household budgets.
The latest increase is being attributed to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Shipping movement through the Strait of Hormuz has reportedly been affected. Tensions between Iran and the United States in the region have continued for nearly 12 weeks, resulting in a steady rise in global energy prices. Crude oil prices have also witnessed a sharp surge. Following yesterday’s increase in petrol and diesel prices, fuel rates crossed the Rs 100 mark for the first time this year.
