New Delhi, May 25 (H.S.): Delhi Gymkhana Club has approached the Delhi High Court challenging the Central Government’s notice directing it to vacate its premises. On Monday, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi mentioned the matter before the court of Justice Avneesh Jhingan and sought an urgent hearing. Following the request, the court directed that the matter be heard on May 26.

In the petition filed by club member Vijay Khurana, it has been stated that the Central Government issued a notice to the Delhi Gymkhana Club directing it to vacate its 27.3-acre premises by June 5. Earlier, on May 22, the Land and Development Office had also issued an order asking the club to vacate the property.

The Central Government has stated that the Gymkhana Club is located near the Prime Minister’s residence and other sensitive security establishments. According to the government, the land occupied by the club is required for strengthening defence-related and other critical infrastructure facilities.
