New Delhi, May 25 (H.S.): Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has accused the Central Government of burdening citizens by raising petrol and diesel prices for the fourth consecutive time. He alleged that the Modi government has been continuously increasing fuel prices after the elections, thereby placing additional financial pressure on the public.
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi wrote that inflation has “attacked once again.” He said petrol and diesel prices are being increased in instalments so that “people’s pockets continue to be quietly emptied.” He further alleged that he had been warning for months about an impending economic storm, but the Prime Minister remained occupied with elections. According to him, immediately after the elections concluded, petrol and diesel prices were increased by nearly ₹8.
Rahul Gandhi claimed that the price hikes would continue in the coming days as well. He remarked that the Modi government has only one agenda — making promises during elections and burdening citizens for the remainder of the time.
Over the past month, petrol, diesel, CNG, and LPG prices have witnessed four successive hikes. On May 25, petrol in Delhi rose to ₹102.12 per litre, while diesel reached ₹95.20 per litre. Earlier, on May 23, petrol prices were increased by 87 paise and diesel by 91 paise, taking petrol to ₹99.51 per litre and diesel to ₹92.49 per litre.
Fuel prices had also been raised on May 18, when petrol and diesel became costlier by around 90 paise per litre, while CNG prices increased by ₹1 per kilogram. Prior to that, on May 15, petrol and diesel prices were increased by ₹3 per litre each, and CNG prices were raised by ₹2 per kilogram on the same day.
The first increase in the recent series came on May 1, when the price of commercial LPG cylinders was raised by ₹993, taking the price in Delhi to ₹3,071.50 per cylinder.
