The Tamil Nadu government on Friday carried out a police reshuffle involving six senior and mid-level officers, issuing a series of promotions, transfers and fresh postings across key positions in the state police administration. The changes, notified by the Home Department, take effect immediately.

As part of the reshuffle, P K Senthil Kumari has been appointed as Inspector General of Police (IG), Traffic and Road Safety, Chennai. Kumari, who had been on compulsory wait, has now been assigned to fill an existing vacancy in the department. The appointment is considered significant given the increasing focus on road safety initiatives and traffic management in the state.

The transfer orders were issued through an official notification signed by K Manivasan, Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Home (SC) Department.

Among other major changes, Dongare Pravin Umesh has been posted as Superintendent of Police (SP), Tiruchirappalli district. Umesh, who was serving in the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing, Western Range, Chennai, takes over the post from S Selvanagarathinam.

In another key transfer, V Shyamala Devi, who was serving as SP of Thirupathur district, has been moved to Chennai and posted as SP-II, Crime Against Women and Children. Her new assignment places her in a department dealing with sensitive cases involving women and child safety.

S Ashok Kumar, currently serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Coimbatore City, has been transferred and posted as SP of Tenkasi district.

The reshuffle also included promotions for two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) to the rank of Superintendent of Police.

Akshay Anil Wakhare, ASP of Hosur Sub-Division in Krishnagiri district, has been elevated and posted as SP of Thirupathur district, replacing V Shyamala Devi.

Similarly, V Lalith Kumar, ASP of Nagercoil Sub-Division in Kanniyakumari district, has been promoted and appointed as SP of Perambalur district, succeeding K Prabakar.

The latest administrative changes are part of the state's continuing efforts to strengthen policing and streamline administrative responsibilities across districts and specialised units.
