Heroin worth 34 crore seized in major operations in  Kalyan


Kalyan, 22 May (HS): In the biggest operation by

Kalyan Zone 3 police in Thane district, 9.768 heroin worth Rs 34.18 crore. Was seized.

Five people including noted drug smuggler Amjad Yusuf Pathan, were arrested in

this connection. With the anti-drug operation in Kalyan-Dombiwli region a big

racket in drug smuggling has been exposed. Police are investigation its

connection to Mumbai’s Goregaon Nexo case.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of

Commissioner of Police Atul Jhende and Assistant Commissioner of Police Ashok

Honmane by the Anti-Narcotic Squad. ASI Anil Gaikwad and his team were patrolling

on Wednesday morning, when they noticed two individuals moving in a suspicious

manner near Sanglewadi crematorium. On seeing the policemen they started

running. The policemen chased them and arrested. They were identified as Kasim

Abdul Sattar Vasaikar and Krishna Nagappa Halemani. Police found 9.236 kg of

heroin in their bag worth Rs 32,32,60,000. Police also found Rs 39,000 cash

from their possession. Upon search at Kasim’s residence 539 gm heroin was seized.

During interrogation kingpin of the drug trafficking

racket Amjad Yusuf Pathan’s name was revealed. Amjad has past record of 20

serious offences. The drugs were handed over to Ganeshan Putthuswami Jangmar

alias Anna from Sion Koliwada for sale. Saddam Gaffur Sheikh and Kasim were

assigned the job of handing over the drugs to retailers.

Mahatma Phule Square Police Station has registered offence

under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and are investigating

further. Amjad Pathan was remanded to police custody by the court till June 1.
