New Delhi, May 22 (H.S.): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday laid the foundation stone for the city’s first Oxygen Park, to be developed over nearly three acres in Mukmelpur village of the Burari Assembly constituency. The park is aimed at providing local residents with a better public space for greenery, health, recreation, and social activities.

The Chief Minister announced that the Forest Department has sanctioned ₹1 crore for the construction of the park. In addition, she declared an extra allocation of ₹1 crore from her MLA fund and discretionary grant. She directed officials to equip the park with state-of-the-art facilities and develop it into one of the finest parks in Delhi.

Gupta said that along with modern infrastructure, environmental conservation and improving the quality of life of citizens remain among the government’s highest priorities in the vision of a developed Delhi. She stated that the Oxygen Park being developed in Mukmelpur would not merely serve as a green zone, but would also emerge as a center for health, social interaction, and a positive lifestyle for local residents.

She added that the Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporation are continuously working to expand green spaces across the capital, modernize parks, and enhance public amenities. Amid rapid urbanization, such public spaces play a vital role in reconnecting citizens with nature, providing a stress-free environment, and encouraging healthier lifestyles.

The Chief Minister informed that the Oxygen Park would include walking tracks, attractive and energy-efficient lighting, seating and resting huts, a beautiful pond, and a variety of shade-giving trees, keeping public convenience and environmental conservation in mind. Adequate green cover and open spaces would also be developed within the park.

Gupta said that upon completion, the project would benefit thousands of residents not only from Mukmelpur but also from nearby areas including Jindpur, Bakhtawarpur, Hiranki, and adjoining localities. The park would become an ideal center for walking, exercise, yoga, recreation, and community activities for children, women, senior citizens, and youth.

The Chief Minister further stated that the Delhi Government has set a target of planting more than seven million trees, shrubs, and hedges this year. She expressed confidence that Oxygen Parks, plantation drives, and other environmental conservation initiatives would play a significant role in making Delhi a cleaner, greener, and more livable capital.

She added that the government is continuously working to implement Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” environmental protection, and the mission of a developed India and developed Delhi. Similar developmental projects aimed at increasing green cover and improving citizens’ quality of life would continue in the future as well.

The Chief Minister also assured financial assistance for covering the polluted drain in the area and for other local development works. She stated that development projects worth ₹20 crore have been approved for the Burari Assembly constituency based on suggestions from Members of Parliament and local representatives. These projects include sewer lines and drinking water pipeline works. Permanent solutions to water supply-related issues in the region would also be taken up on priority.

Gupta said that the government has already initiated projects worth nearly ₹10,000 crore related to roads, drainage systems, transport, education, and healthcare facilities in villages and outer Delhi areas. Once completed, these projects would significantly improve public amenities.

She further informed that new medical equipment has been installed at Burari Hospital and dialysis facilities have been expanded. Additionally, the long-defunct vehicle fitness center is being redeveloped into a modern automated fitness testing center, which is also expected to generate new employment opportunities for local youth.

On the occasion, Manoj Tiwari, Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi, along with a large number of councillors, citizens, and local residents, were present.
