
Mumbai, 09 Apr (HS): The Nashik District Court has
remanded police custody to fraudster Ashok Kharat for five days in a fresh
case. Kharat was presented in the court on Thursday in third case against him.
The Government Pleader alleged that the accused in not cooperating in the
enquiry.
Kharat was arrested on March 18 following a
complaint of sexual exploitation of women. Many such complaints were received
after his arrest. Kharat was also found to have indulged in amassing properties
worth crores of rupees illegally. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis constituted
a Special Investigating Team to enquire in charges against Kharat. Meanwhile,
the Enforcement Directorate also initiated investigation and found him involved
in money laundering and cheating.
Eight women have lodged separate complaints of
sexual exploitation against Kharat. Police have registered three complaints of
cheating against him.
Kharat’s Counsel Sachin Bhate argued that police
have been demanding custody on the same grounds, and his (Kharat’s) police
custody is not required as he has answered all queries raised by police.
