Mumbai, 09 Apr (HS): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has

convinced Congress to withdraw nomination from Baramati by-poll. Sunetra Pawar,

wife of late Ajit Pawar who died in a plane crash in Baramati on January 28,

has been fielded by BJP-led Mahayuti. Sunetra Pawar was made Deputy Chief

Minister following death of Ajit Pawar. Although 23 other candidates have not withdrawn from the fray, Sunetra Pawar's election is certain.

Nationalist Congress Party founder Sharad Pawar had earlier declared that

his party will not field any candidate and had appealed to Congress to allow

Sunetra Pawar to be elected unopposed.

Akash More had filed nomination papers as official candidate of

Congress. He withdrew his nomination on Thursday paving way for Sunetra Pawar’s

unopposed election. Thursday was the last day for withdrawing nominations. NCP

leader MP Supriya Sule and MLA Rohit Pawar were also making efforts for the

election without any opposition. More was allowed by the party high command in

Delhi to withdraw his nomination.

Fadnavis had talked to Maharashtra Unit President of Congress

Harshavardhan Sapkal

, which brought the positive result for Sunetra Pawar.
