Lucknow,
April 30 (HS): State Minister of Higher Education, Rajni Tiwari, on Thursday
expressed her views on the topic of continuous discussion on women's
empowerment in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council during
the second special session of the 18th Legislative Assembly for the year 2026.
Emphasizing the need to increase women's political participation in the House,
she expressed deep sorrow and anguish over the failure of the proposed
amendment to the Nari Shakti Vandan Act to be passed in the Lok Sabha and said
that political reservation is necessary to empower half the country's
population.
Minister
Tiwari said that the central government under the leadership of Narendra Modi
and the state government under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath have made
historic strides for the safety, respect, and self-reliance of women. Citing
the Ujjwala Yojana, Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, Kanya Sumangala Yojana,
empowerment of self-help groups, toilet construction, and housing schemes, he
said that these initiatives have brought about profound changes in the lives of
women, empowering them with self-reliance and self-confidence.
He said
that women's participation in the three-tier Panchayat system is already
yielding positive results, and now the time has come for them to have adequate
representation in Parliament and Legislative Assemblies. Respect for women is fundamental
to Indian culture, and it is our responsibility to carry forward the tradition
of Yatra naryastu pujyante, ramante tatra devata (God resides where women
are worshipped). He said that women are now aware of their rights.
