Bahraich,
April 27 (HS): Two drivers were killed and another critically injured in a
multiple-vehicle crash in Assam Chauraha, authorities said Monday. On Sunday
night, a Punjab-registered truck carrying iron machinery, a Haryana-registered
cement trailer, and a Lucknow-registered pickup truck crashed on the Bahraich
bypass. Following the accident, a large fire erupted in the front parts of the
truck and trailer. Both drivers became trapped inside their cabins and were
burned alive, according to investigators.
It took nearly three hours to recover victims because damaged vehicle sections
needed to be ripped open by machine. According to the Station House Officer of
Dargah Shareef police station, the dead driver of the Haryana-registered
trailer was Jeetlal Yadav (55), a Prayagraj native. His assistant suffered
significant injuries and is being treated.
The
injured assistant recognized the deceased. SHO stated that the identity of the
driver of the Punjab-registered truck has yet to be determined. Attempts were
made to contact the registered owner of the vehicle using the given cellphone
number, but there was no response. Police
are also attempting to reach the owner at his location in Punjab. According to
police, a Lucknow-registered pickup vehicle was also found damaged at the
scene, but no goods or people were discovered.
Locals
told police that three people in the pickup fled the site quickly after the
collision. According
to the officer, the front sections of both the truck and the trailer were
severely damaged, and the cabins were entirely destroyed by the fire. According
to authorities, the remains have been transferred for postmortem inspection,
and an investigation is now underway.
