
Bhubaneswar, 26 April (H.S.): In a tragic incident, a woman was killed after being attacked by a wild elephant in Sansailo village under Valia panchayat in Dhenkanal district.
The deceased has been identified as Gitanjali Sahu, a local resident. According to preliminary information, she had gone to a nearby forest area early in the morning to collect mangoes when a wild elephant suddenly appeared and attacked her. She sustained critical injuries and died on the spot.
The incident has triggered panic among villagers, who have raised concerns over the increasing cases of human-elephant conflict in the region. Locals have urged the Forest Department to take immediate and effective measures, including enhanced monitoring and preventive steps, to prevent such incidents in the future.
Forest officials have reached the site and initiated an investigation into the matter. Further details regarding the circumstances of the attack and possible compensation for the victim’s family are awaited.
