Birbhum, 26 April (H.S.): Tension flared in Nanur Assembly constituency after BJP candidate Khokon Das alleged that his vehicle was vandalised by Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters. The ruling party, however, has denied the allegations.
The incident reportedly took place on Saturday night near Chitra More in Bolpur. Following polling on Thursday, EVMs from Bolpur, Nanur and Labhpur constituencies have been kept under tight security in a strong room at Bolpur College.
According to the BJP, a युवक attempted to enter the strong room using a fake identity on Saturday night. Upon receiving information, Khokon Das rushed to the spot to inspect the situation.
Das alleged that near Chitra More, he was surrounded by TMC workers and supporters, including leaders linked to the Nanur constituency, who vandalised his car. As news of the incident spread, BJP supporters gathered at the spot, followed by TMC workers, leading to a heated exchange between the two sides.
Police rushed to the scene in large numbers and brought the situation under control. The area remains tense, with security forces maintaining a close watch.
