Bhubaneswar, 19 April (H.S.): Odisha marked a significant milestone in its technological and industrial growth as Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Minister for Electronics & IT and Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw jointly laid the foundation stone for the advanced semiconductor project of 3D Glass Solutions at Infovalley in Khordha district near Bhubaneswar.
The project involves setting up a state-of-the-art glass substrate packaging unit, marking a historic addition to Odisha’s ongoing industrial transformation. The initiative reflects the state government’s strong commitment to advancing the electronics and semiconductor ecosystem.
Praising the state’s efforts, Union Minister Vaishnaw said Odisha is entering a new era of industrial growth and employment generation, crediting the Chief Minister’s leadership and vision.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Majhi described the occasion as a landmark moment not only for Odisha but also for India’s technological leadership. He highlighted that the facility will be the country’s first advanced 3D glass substrate packaging unit, with applications in critical sectors such as artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and defence electronics.
The Chief Minister further noted that global giants like Intel, Lockheed Martin, and Applied Materials partnering with 3D Glass Solutions reflect growing global confidence in Odisha as an emerging investment destination.
With an estimated investment of around ₹2,000 crore, the project is expected to produce 70,000 glass panels annually, along with 50 million assembled units and 13,200 advanced 3DHI modules. It is projected to generate nearly 2,500 employment opportunities in the state.
The Chief Minister also revealed that Odisha has already attracted over ₹10,000 crore in semiconductor investments, with companies such as RIR Power Electronics and SiCSEM having established units in the state.
Highlighting Odisha’s strengths, he cited abundant natural resources, world-class infrastructure, a skilled workforce, strong connectivity, and responsive governance as key factors drawing investors. He urged the youth to upskill and seize emerging opportunities in the semiconductor sector.
Emphasizing India’s self-reliance vision under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Majhi said Odisha is poised to play a crucial role and emerge as a launchpad for the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” mission in eastern India.
Several dignitaries, including state Electronics & IT Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, Chief Secretary Anu Garg, senior officials, and industry leaders, were present at the event.
