Bhubaneswar, 17 April (H.S.): Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has criticized Leader of Opposition in the Odisha Assembly Naveen Patnaik for raising concerns over the proposed 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill, terming his claims “misleading” and aimed at creating unnecessary fear among the public.

Taking to social media, Pradhan said that such remarks do not befit an experienced leader. He asserted that the apprehension that the proposed amendment would adversely affect Odisha’s political and economic interests is “completely baseless.”

The Union Minister urged people to have faith in the Constitution of India as well as in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He noted that the Home Minister has already clarified in Parliament that no state’s rights would be compromised and that Odisha’s interests would remain fully protected.

Rejecting concerns related to the delimitation process, Pradhan said claims that Odisha’s representation in the Lok Sabha would decrease are unfounded. On the contrary, he emphasized that the state’s representation is expected to increase, not decline.

Accusing the opposition of spreading misinformation, Pradhan said that presenting distorted facts to instill fear among citizens is inappropriate. He added that all doubts would be cleared in due course and urged people to remain patient.

He also pointed out that the opposition has supported the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act,’ describing it as a welcome step. However, he stressed that such a historic reform should be backed wholeheartedly by all stakeholders.

Highlighting the Centre’s commitment to Odisha, Pradhan said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the state has consistently received priority. He described the proposed constitutional amendment as a significant step not only for Odisha but for empowering women across the country.

Calling for restraint, the minister appealed to all political parties not to politicize the issue and instead focus on the nation’s overall development. He emphasized that upholding the dignity of the Constitution and prioritizing national interest over political gains should remain paramount.
