Imphal, 13 June (HS): A joint operation by Assam Rifles and Thoubal Police Commandos has led to the recovery of a large quantity of arms, ammunition and military-grade equipment in Manipur's Kakching district, dealing a significant blow to insurgent networks active in the region.

According to an official statement issued by the Manipur Police Headquarters on Saturday, the operation was launched on the basis of specific intelligence inputs in the Purnahetupokpi area of Kakching district. During the search, security personnel recovered a US-made .32 pistol along with four live rounds, two single-barrel breech-loading (SBBL) guns and two detonators.

The seized ammunition included 17 rounds of AK-series ammunition, 18 rounds of SLR ammunition, 29 rounds of .303 ammunition and three rounds of INSAS ammunition. Security forces also recovered a striker spring, two tear smoke shells, 12 stickers bearing the KCP logo and a bipod.

In addition to weapons and ammunition, the joint team recovered a substantial quantity of military-grade equipment. The haul included 12 bulletproof plates, two bulletproof fibre plates, two helmets and a bulletproof jacket. Other items seized comprised 60 combat shirts, 57 combat trousers, two combat jackets, 18 combat caps, eight pairs of combat boots, 23 combat belts and an MP-5 sling.

Officials described the recovery as a major success in ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activities and maintain law and order in the conflict-affected state. All recovered items have been handed over to Heirok Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations across Manipur in recent months as part of broader efforts to recover illegal arms, dismantle militant networks and restore peace and stability in the state.--------
