Hyderabad, 13 June (HS): Nine flights bound for Hyderabad were diverted to other airports after adverse weather conditions affected flight operations at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad, airport sources said.
According to sources, heavy rain and poor weather conditions led to restrictions on flight landings, prompting air traffic authorities to divert incoming aircraft to nearby airports as a precautionary measure.
Six flights scheduled to land in Hyderabad were diverted to Bengaluru, while two were diverted to Chennai and one to Nagpur.
The flights diverted to Bengaluru included services arriving from Mumbai, Pune, Nanded, Singapore and Delhi. Two other flights arriving from Varanasi and another destination were diverted to Chennai, while a flight operating from Bengaluru to Hyderabad was diverted to Nagpur.
Airport sources said the diversions were carried out after the Air Traffic Control (ATC) at RGIA was unable to permit landings due to unfavourable weather conditions.
The affected aircraft were subsequently routed to alternate airports to ensure passenger safety and operational continuity.
Flight operations at the Hyderabad airport were later monitored in accordance with prevailing weather conditions, officials said.
