Lucknow, April 16 (HS): According to sources, Lucknow

Police have attached movable and immovable assets worth more than Rs 5.78 crore

under the Gangsters Act in connection with an organised real estate fraud

racket that reportedly misled individuals by selling non-existent or disputed

land, authorities said on Thursday.

Action was taken in the Mohanlalganj area under the command of Police

Commissioner Amrendra Singh Sengar as part of an ongoing anti-organized crime

campaign. According to authorities, the assets belong to suspected gang leader

Pramod Kumar Upadhyay and his partner, Vinod Kumar Upadhyay. According to

investigators, the defendants ran a well-organized syndicate that enticed naïve

clients with alluring offers on residential plots while appearing as

representatives of reputable real estate organizations. Victims were

subsequently discovered to have been sold land that either did not exist or was

not held by the defendant.

The gang specifically targeted people from the armed services and

paramilitary formations, taking advantage of their restricted availability for

site inspection owing to duty obligations.

Since 2020, 66 cases have been recorded against the accused at various Lucknow

police stations, including allegations of fraud, criminal conspiracy, forgery,

criminal breach of trust, and attempted murder, according to the statement.

Attachment proceedings were initiated under Section 14(1) of the Uttar

Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, following

instructions issued by the competent court on April 6. The connected items

include a plot and a semi-completed house in Omaxe City, Lucknow, valued at

more than Rs 5.3 crore, as well as three vehicles worth around Rs 45 lakh: a

Toyota Innova, a Maruti Swift, and a Mahindra Bolero, according to the

statement.

Police teams and tax

authorities placed attachment notices on the premises and alerted nearby people

that the assets were now under judicial jurisdiction. Officials stated that

further attachment processes in the case are now underway. Police emphasized

that tough action against organized criminal syndicates would continue to

protect the public interest and preserve a crime-free environment.
