
Prayagraj, April 16 (HS): The two-day national workshop on apiculture, organized by the
Department of Entomology, SHUATS and sponsored by UPCAR, Lucknow, concluded
today at the JIBB Auditorium with a vibrant valedictory session. The second day
featured four technical sessions. Dr. Usha Yadav, SHUATS, spoke on
Present Scenario, Scope and Importance of Beekeeping in Uttar
Pradesh. Dr. Atul Yadav, ANDUAT, Ayodhya, highlighted the Role of
Honey Bee Pollination on Fruit Crops. Dr. Shailendra Singh, SHUATS,
discussed Importance of Honey Bees as Pollinators on Different Crops.
Dr. Ruchira Tiwari, GBPUAT, Pantnagar, joined online and spoke on
Eco-friendly Practices in Beekeeping.
The Chief Guest for the
valedictory session was Dr. Sanjay Singh, Director General, UPCAR. Addressing
the gathering, Dr. Singh said, “Developing technology is important, but
bringing it to the market is even more crucial.” Quoting Hon'ble Chief Minister
Shri Yogi Adityanath, he stressed the urgent need to take research from lab to
field so that every farmer can benefit. He
strongly advocated for patenting all research and innovations, warning that
without patents, others may exploit the technology while the original
institution lags behind. Calling upon youth to embrace entrepreneurship, he
noted that the government can only provide limited jobs given India’s vast
population, making startups essential.
Dr. Singh also expressed
concern over climate change impacting agricultural production and shared
strategies to tackle this challenge. He further discussed measures to enhance
honey quality and reduce honey loss during off-seasons when bees travel 2–3 km
for forage.

Dr. Biswarup Mehra and Pro VC (Academic) Prof. Dr. Ranu Prasad, registrar Prof.
Dr CJ Wasley, director research Prof. Dr SD Macarty also shared their views. The
event was attended by Dr. Sunita Yadav, Principal Scientist & Head,
Entomology, CCSHAU, Hisar; Dr. Manoj Kumar Jaat; Dr. Atul Yadav; Ekta Masih;
along with Heads of Departments, Deans, Directors, and a large number of
students. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Usha Yadav.
