Guwahati, 16 April (HS): The Assam Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday welcomed the key initiatives taken during the three-day special session of Parliament, including the introduction and passage of major legislative proposals.
In an official statement, the party said that three significant bills were taken up during the session—‘One Nation, One Election’, nationwide delimitation of constituencies, and reservation of seats for women in Parliament and state legislatures under the “Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam”.
Assam BJP spokesperson Pranjal Kalita informed that the ‘One Nation, One Election’ bill was passed in the Lok Sabha with 207 votes. The party described the move as a step toward strengthening electoral efficiency and governance.
Welcoming the decision to reserve one-third, or 33 percent, of seats for women through a constitutional amendment, Assam BJP president and Darrang-Udalguri MP Dilip Saikia said the initiative would accelerate women’s empowerment and ensure greater participation of women in the democratic process.
The party maintained that these legislative measures reflect the Centre’s commitment to structural reforms and inclusive political representation across the country.-------------
