Bhubaneswar, 01 April (H.S.): The Odisha government has withdrawn four bills related to the proposed salary hike for legislators, ministers, the Speaker, and the Deputy Speaker. The decision to revoke these bills was taken unanimously in the State Legislative Assembly.

Notably, these bills had been passed unanimously on the final day of the previous Winter Session, with both the ruling party and the Opposition extending full support at the time. However, the proposed steep increase in salaries and allowances later triggered widespread public reaction.

On Tuesday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling moved a proposal in the Assembly to withdraw all four bills, which was approved through a voice vote. He stated that although the bills had earlier received unanimous approval, several members subsequently suggested a need for reconsideration.

Taking into account the views expressed by members, the government decided to withdraw the bills, marking a significant move amid concerns and criticism over the proposed pay hike.
