Bhubaneswar, 08 March (H.S.): In a significant political development, senior leader Mohammed Moquim is set to launch a new political party, ‘Odisha Janata Congress’, at the Exhibition Ground in Bhubaneswar on April 8.
According to sources, Moquim will formally announce the formation of the party at a public event where representatives from various political backgrounds are expected to participate.
Commenting on the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, Moquim expressed strong views on the current political situation in the state. He alleged that the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has weakened the Indian National Congress in Odisha over the past 25 years.
According to him, any understanding or alliance with the BJD would amount to an “unholy alliance” that could ultimately harm the Congress party. He also claimed that several Congress MLAs are unhappy with the possibility of such a political arrangement.
“We are not late in announcing the new party. The party’s flag and its foundational document have already been finalised. There is significant interest among people across Odisha regarding the formation of this new political platform,” Moquim said.
He further stated that the party’s primary objective would be to serve the people of Odisha, with a strong focus on fighting corruption, promoting youth empowerment, and raising key issues related to the mining sector.
Moquim added that the party was initially planned to be launched by the end of March. However, keeping in view the celebrations of Ram Navami, the announcement has now been scheduled for April 8.
