Dibrugarh, 06 March (HS): Congress workers staged a protest in Khowang opposing the proposed candidature of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi from the constituency. The protestors demanded that the Congress party field its own candidate from Khowang instead of supporting an alliance nominee.

Raising slogans, the agitating party workers said that Congress supporters in the constituency want to vote only for a candidate contesting on the party’s “Hand” symbol. They expressed dissatisfaction over the possibility of backing a candidate from another party under the opposition alliance arrangement.

The protest highlighted growing resentment among a section of Congress workers in the constituency, who urged the party leadership to reconsider the decision and ensure that a Congress candidate is nominated from Khowang.---------------
