Guwahati, 06 March (HS): The opposition alliance in Assam witnessed a major political development after Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi, along with senior Congress leader Rakibul Hussain, formally announced the exclusion of Akhil Gogoi from the alliance.
With this decision, the strength of the opposition alliance has reportedly been reduced significantly, shrinking from 16 parties earlier to just four parties now.
Speaking on the issue on Friday, Gaurav Gogoi stated that the Raijor Dal would only be required for campaign-related purposes and would not be a part of the core opposition alliance structure.
The development comes amid ongoing political realignments in the state ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, with opposition parties recalibrating their strategies and partnerships.---------
