Guwahati, 04 March (HS): Allegations of dynastic politics have surfaced within the Congress following the release of its first list of 42 candidates, with critics claiming that eight sons and daughters of established Congress leaders have been given tickets, sparking resentment at various constituency levels.

Opponents within and outside the party have alleged that the Congress continues to promote “family-centric politics,” asserting that the party has failed to free itself from dynastic traditions. They claimed that just as the Nehru–Gandhi family has long occupied the top leadership position in the party at the national level, a similar pattern is being reflected in Assam.

Several leaders have openly stated that ordinary grassroots workers are being sidelined, and that only those with VVIP backgrounds or political lineage are being considered for party nominations. The developments have reportedly triggered rebellion in multiple constituencies, with disgruntled members expressing dissatisfaction over the selection process.

Meanwhile, the party is witnessing a wave of resignations. Senior Congress leader Sanjiv Roy from Silchar has resigned from the party, further intensifying the internal crisis ahead of the upcoming elections.

Political observers believe that the controversy over alleged dynastic politics may impact the party’s electoral prospects if the discontent within the ranks is not addressed promptly.-----------
