Alappuzha, 04 March (H.S.):In a development that has stirred political discussion in Kerala, former Minister and veteran Communist leader G. Sudhakaran has announced that he will not renew his membership in the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPM] for 2026, alleging continued neglect and humiliation within the party.

In a strongly worded Facebook post, Sudhakaran said he had chosen not to submit an application for the party’s ongoing membership scrutiny process for 2026. The senior leader, who has been associated with the CPM for more than six decades, said the decision came after years of what he described as systematic sidelining by sections of the party leadership.

Despite stepping away from formal membership, Sudhakaran emphasised that he would remain committed to the ideological principles of the Left movement. He stated that he would continue to stand firmly with the people and uphold the values and ideals that shaped his long political journey.

Sudhakaran also launched a sharp attack on CPM State Secretary M.V. Govindan, accusing him of publicly mocking him during a recent press conference. According to Sudhakaran, remarks made by the state secretary during the interaction suggested that he was a person who did not deserve consideration within the party. He said the comments were inappropriate and humiliating, and claimed that Govindan even laughed while making them.

The veteran leader further alleged that the party’s district leadership had consistently ignored him over the past five years. Despite having served the party for 63 years, he said he was not invited to any public programmes organised by the district committee during that period.

Sudhakaran cited the recent commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Emergency as an example of the alleged neglect. He said that although he had been arrested, jailed and subjected to custodial assault during the early phase of the Emergency, he was not even sent an invitation to participate in the event marking its anniversary.

He also claimed that an LC (Local Committee) member had made derogatory remarks about his father, describing the incident as deeply hurtful.

Stating that no one within the party had come forward to question or correct the remarks made against him, Sudhakaran said he did not wish to remain in the organisation and create difficulties for the leaders concerned.

Along with the Facebook post, Sudhakaran also shared a video clip of the press conference conducted by M.V. Govindan, which he cited as evidence of the alleged remarks.
