Dibrugarh (Assam), 30 March (HS): Congress leader and Jharkhand Agriculture Minister Silpi Neha Tirky launched a sharp attack on Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging misuse of political power and accumulation of vast wealth by his family over the past decade.

Addressing a press conference in Dibrugarh during her visit for election campaigning on Monday, Tirky claimed that in the last ten years, development in Assam has been limited to a select few, particularly targeting what she referred to as the Chief Minister’s close family circle. She alleged that thousands of bighas of land in the state are now under the control of the CM’s family and accused them of amassing unimaginable assets after gaining political power.

The Congress leader further alleged that government support was extended to the Chief Minister’s spouse through misuse of authority and claimed that land in tribal areas was handed over to big corporate entities. She said such actions have created fear and resentment among the people of Assam.

Criticising the BJP Government, Tirky also accused the party of betraying the tea tribe community in the state. Referring to recent land-related documents distributed among the community, she termed them “worthless,” likening them to paper fit only for use in a bathroom.

Tirky reiterated that the Congress Party would continue to raise these issues during the ongoing election campaign and hold the state government accountable.---------
