Thiruvananthapuram, 23 March (H.S.):Kerala continues to reel under severe heatwave conditions, with high temperatures and rising humidity causing widespread discomfort across the state. Except for a few high-range regions, most districts are experiencing oppressive weather, prompting warnings from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

On Monday, several parts of the state recorded unusually high temperatures. Punalur emerged as the hottest location, registering a scorching 38.4°C. Kottayam followed closely with 37.8°C, while Palakkad recorded 37.7°C. These readings are significantly above normal levels for this time of year, indicating a sharp rise in temperature across Kerala.

The IMD has cautioned that temperatures are likely to increase further in the coming days, with a rise of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius expected across the state. In response to the escalating heat conditions, a yellow alert has been issued in 12 districts, signaling the possibility of heat-related stress and health concerns.

According to the forecast, Palakkad district may witness temperatures soaring up to 38°C until Tuesday. Districts including Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Kasaragod are likely to experience highs of around 37°C. Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Kannur could see temperatures reaching up to 36°C.

The combination of high temperatures and humid conditions is expected to result in particularly uncomfortable weather, especially in lowland areas. Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution, stay hydrated, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours.

With the heatwave showing no immediate signs of easing, residents across Kerala are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard their health.
