Guwahati, 23 March (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a sharp attack on noted intellectual Hiren Gohain, describing him as “clearly aligned with the Congress” and alleging that he has been opposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi since he assumed office.

Addressing the media after a key BJP meeting at Bajpayee Bhawan last night, Sarma said that the platform ‘Sommilito Nagorik Manch’ should instead be termed as a “Congress platform,” accusing Gohain of political bias. He asserted that such forums are indirectly working to support the Congress party.

The Chief Minister also spoke on the political scenario in Sivasagar, stating that people in the constituency are seeking a representative from the ruling side. He added that the BJP’s decision on whether to field a candidate in Sivasagar would be finalized after discussions with its ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).

Refuting reports of internal dissatisfaction within the BJP, Sarma said that barring one or two individuals, there is no significant discontent in the party. He further informed that Amiya Bhuyan has been appointed as the vice-president of the BJP’s state committee.

Dismissing media reports, the Chief Minister said that leaders like Nihar Ranjan Das and others are not facing any dissatisfaction within the party, reiterating that the BJP in Assam remains largely united ahead of the elections.------------
