Nagpur, 20 Mar

(HS): Maharashtra Women’s Commission Rupali Chakankar has handed over her

resignation to Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar on Friday late in the evening.

Chakankar’s

close association with Ashok Kharat, who was arrested for sexually exploiting women,

surfaced a couple of day ago. The demand for her resignation was being raised

from various political and social leaders.

Ashok Kharat who

projected himself as astrologer was in contact with many political leaders,

particularly from Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar). Chakankar was one among the NCP member who

was very close to Kharat, her photographs indicate.

NCP leaders also

demanded her removal from the key post and action against her, as the party’s

image is being affected due to her presence and also women faith in the Women’s

Commission will be affected.

UBT Sena leaders

Sushama Andhare, Sanjay Raut, MLA Rupali Thombre Patil, NCP (Sharad Pawar)

leader Rohit Pawar and others strongly opposed her holding the position as Women’s

Commission Chief.

Many of the

political leaders have demanded Chakankar to be made co-accused with Ashok

Kharat.

Ashok Kharat has

amassed huge property worth hundreds of crore rupees.
