Guwahati, 20 March (HS): The nomination process for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections gathered momentum on Friday, with 109 candidates filing their nomination papers across 35 districts of the state.

According to official information released by the state’s Information and Public Relations Department, a total of 209 nomination papers were submitted during the day. With this, the cumulative figures have reached 116 candidates filing 219 nomination papers so far, indicating a rapid intensification of election activities.

Prominent candidates who filed their nominations on Friday include Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, Health Minister Ashok Singhal, Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika and Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, among other key political figures.

As per the election schedule, the last date for filing nomination papers has been fixed as March 23.-----------
