New Delhi, 18 March (H.S.):
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the fire tragedy in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and announced ex‑gratia relief of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the next‑of‑kin of each deceased, besides ₹50,000 support for the injured. The incident, which occurred early Wednesday in a residential building, was triggered by an electric‑car charging short‑circuit.
In a post on X published by the Prime Minister’s Office,PM Modi conveyed his anguish over the loss of life and property in the Indore blaze and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He also prayed for the early recovery of those who sustained injuries in the fire.
The Prime Minister’s announcement mirrors the standard relief pattern for such tragedies: ₹2 lakh per family of the deceased and ₹50,000 per injured person, with the amounts drawn from the PMNRF. Authorities have confirmed that six people were killed on the spot after the fire spread rapidly, while three others suffered severe burn injuries and were rushed to hospital.
The fire broke out around 4:00 AM in a three‑storey house in Indore, reportedly after a short‑circuit at an electric‑car charging point. The resultant explosion and flames quickly engulfed the structure, with stored LPG cylinders adding to the intensity of the blaze and trapping several residents inside. Police and fire services teams rushed to the spot and managed to pull out some occupants, though many could not escape the inferno.
