Chennai, 18 March(IANS):With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections officially announced, political activity across the State has intensified, particularly around alliance-building and seat-sharing negotiations. In a key development, Union Minister and BJP’s Tamil Nadu election in-charge, Piyush Goyal, is scheduled to arrive in Chennai on March 19, signalling a crucial phase in discussions between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally, the AIADMK.

Sources indicate that seat-sharing talks between the two parties have entered their final stage and are likely to be concluded within the next one or two days. The negotiations are being closely watched, as both sides attempt to strike a balance that reflects their electoral strength and strategic priorities ahead of the high-stakes Assembly polls.

As part of the ongoing consultations, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami is expected to meet Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran today. The meeting is seen as critical in ironing out remaining differences and finalising key aspects of the alliance arrangement.

Reports suggest that a formal seat-sharing agreement between the AIADMK and BJP could be signed as early as March 20. With the nomination process set to begin on March 30, political parties are under increasing pressure to conclude alliance talks and announce candidates without delay.

According to sources, the BJP is likely to secure at least 30 seats in the alliance. The party is also keen on contesting prominent urban constituencies in Chennai, including Velachery, Mylapore, and T. Nagar.

Goyal’s visit is being viewed as a decisive step towards sealing the alliance and ensuring coordination between the BJP’s central leadership and its Tamil Nadu unit, while also energising campaign efforts ahead of the elections.
