Prayagraj,
12 March (HS): A 60-year-old patient underwent a successful total knee
replacement (TKR) of his left knee at Swarup Rani Nehru Hospital. The surgery
was performed by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Anand Kumar's team using the modern
subvastus approach. The patient had been suffering from severe knee pain and
difficulty walking for a long time. Examination revealed advanced
osteoarthritis in the knee joint, leading to the decision to perform a total
knee replacement.
Dr. Anand
Kumar explained that the subvastus approach is a muscle-sparing technique that
allows the operation to be performed without cutting the main thigh muscles.
This results in less pain, less bleeding, and faster rehabilitation. The
hallmark of this technique is that the patient can begin walking with support
the very next day after the operation. The surgical team included Dr. Saif and
Dr. Ranjit, while Dr. Nitin and Dr. Ankit provided assistance from the
anesthesia department. The operating theater staff also played a significant
role.
Congratulating
the team, Prof. Dr. V.K. Pandey, Principal of Motilal Nehru Medical College,
said that Swarup Rani Hospital provides patients with the best and safest
treatment possible using modern techniques. The operation was successful, and
the patient is stable. Doctors say the patient will be able to return to normal
activities within a few days.
